The film, directed by John Ford and starring John Wayne, isn't just a classic Western...it's a
classic, period. It tells the story of two Texan men who spend years on the trail searching
for two young girls who have been kidnapped by a group of Comanche Indians. Wayne stars
as one of these men, Ethan Edwards, a hardened, cynical, Indian-hating veteren of the Civil
War. Ethan's partner is Martin "Marty" Pawley (played by Jeffrey Hunter).
