About Beezle and Unico

Unico and Beezle are characters from the movie The Fantastic Adventures
of Unico. In the movie, Unico (a baby unicorn who has the ability to
make those around him happy) spends most of his time hiding out from the
gods (who are jealous of his powers). The West Wind, his only friend,
places him on the Island of the Devil of Solitude...the last place the gods
would ever look for him. Unico wanders around the island and eventually
meets the Devil of Solitude (a large, very scary looking statue) and later,
the Devil of Solitude's son, Beezle. Beezle is an arrogant, bratty
little demon child who is used to getting his own way. Unico offers
to be his friend, but Beezle is only interested in one thing -- Unico's horn.
Unico promises to hand the horn over to Beezle for one day, in exchange for
one day's worth of friendship from Beezle. Beezle accepts...but since
he's never had a real friend before, he doesn't know how friendship works.
He spends much of the day bossing Unico around and using Unico's horn
to force Unico to do his bidding. He chases Unico all around the island
and Unico ends up falling over the cliff and smack dab into the treacherous
ocean. He begs Beezle to save him, but Beezle decides he can't really
be bothered. He goes back to his castle, but while he's there he begins
to re-think his decision. After all, if Unico dies in the ocean, Beezle
won't be able to return Unico's horn (and, as Beezle notes, devils should
always keep their promises..."Daddy was always very strict about that").
Beezle runs back outside and dives into the ocean (despite the fact that
he knows that sea-water is like poison to devils). He braves the current,
swimming out to Unico (who has lost all of his strength) and puts Unico's
horn back on top of his head. Unico immediately wakes up, and when
he realizes that Beezle is close to death due to the sea-water, he transforms
into a mighty unicorn, picks up Beezle, and carries him to shore. Once
there, Beezle regains consciousness and is stunned to see the adult unicorn
standing over him. Unico shrinks back down to his normal form and explains
that he is only able to transform when someone who truly loves him needs
his help: "And I think you love me, Beezle."
Though Beezle is grossed out at the suggestion of a devil loving anyone,
Unico ignores him and uses his powers to give Beezle a horn of his very own.
Beezle becomes very excited by the present, and as he bounces all over
the island, the once-barren ground becomes covered with beautiful green grass
and flowers. Spring has at last come to the Island of the Devil of
Solitude, thanks to Beezle's pure-hearted happiness.
Unfortunately, the gods (watching from the clouds) take notice of the fact
that "a severe case of happiness" has now broken out all over the island.
They realize that the West Wind has hidden Unico there, and they send
the Night Wind (their loyal servant and the West Wind's enemy) to retrieve
Unico.
The West Wind is two-steps ahead of them, however -- she rushes to the island
herself. Once there, she explains the situation to Unico. Unico
doesn't want to leave Beezle (who is on the other side of the island, still
happily bouncing around), but he has no choice. The West Wind scoops
him up and they fly off.
Beezle notices Unico's absence and looks for him all over the island. He
catches sight of the West Wind and Unico soaring through the crowds and throws
a tantrum, yelling at them both, ordering the West Wind to bring Unico back
immediately ("Now that I'm your friend you don't get rid of me that easy!!").
But it is to no avail, and Beezle is left alone, again.
Unico goes through a few more adventures in a new land, and he and the new
friend he has made there, Katy, wind up in danger at the hands of the evil
Baron deGhost. The West Wind once again tries to go to Unico's aid...and
flies past Beezle's island in the process. Beezle sees her and demands
that she take him with her so that he can see Unico again. The West
Wind relents, and Beezle and Unico are eventually reunited. They are
overjoyed to see one another (and it's a happy treat for those viewers who
didn't expect to see Beezle again after Unico left the Island of the Devil
of Solitude). Beezle also plays an important part in saving the day
when fighting the Baron (Beezle offers up some amusing insight regarding
the demonic Baron's character: "Wow, that guy's even meaner looking than
my dad!") While at the end of the movie, Unico is forced to leave with
the West Wind once again, Beezle stays behind with Katy.
